What to Do When Your Phone Keeps Overheating
Daily Tech Tip 02: Phones can become warm during gaming, navigation, video calls, camera use and fast charging. Persistent heat during light use, repeated temperature warnings or rapid battery drain needs attention.
Why this matters
High temperature can reduce battery life and may cause the phone to slow down or shut off. In some cases the cause is software load; in others it is a worn battery, charging fault, liquid damage or board problem.
Safe steps to try
- Remove the case temporarily and move the phone away from direct sunlight.
- Stop charging and close demanding apps such as games, camera or navigation.
- Restart the phone after it has cooled naturally.
- Check battery usage to identify an app consuming unusual power in the background.
- Install stable operating-system and app updates, then monitor whether the heat returns.
What to avoid
- Do not put the phone in a freezer or against ice. Rapid cooling can create condensation.
- Do not continue fast charging a phone that is too hot to hold comfortably.
- Do not ignore swelling, unusual smells or a separating screen.
When to stop and get help
Power the device off and seek help promptly if the battery appears swollen, the screen lifts, the phone smells unusual, or it becomes hot while idle.
Occasional warmth under heavy load can be normal. Repeated heat during simple tasks is a reason to check the battery, charging system and recent software changes.
