Why this matters
The adapter converts mains electricity while the cable carries power to the device. Physical damage, loose connections or unsuitable specifications can create heat, intermittent charging and electrical risk.
Safe steps to try
- Inspect the plug casing for cracks, movement, discolouration or bent pins.
- Check the cable ends for fraying, exposed conductors or looseness.
- Confirm the charger supports the voltage and charging standard required by the device.
- Replace accessories that become unusually hot during ordinary use.
- Use reputable products with clear manufacturer and safety information.
What to avoid
- Do not tape over exposed wire and continue using the cable.
- Do not use a charger that sparks, buzzes or smells burnt.
- Do not pull a cable out by the wire.
When to stop and get help
Unplug the charger immediately if the socket, plug or device becomes hot, makes noise, or shows signs of melting. Have the wall socket checked if the problem occurs with several known-good chargers.
A replacement charger costs less than damage to a phone, socket or property. Treat heat and physical damage as warning signs.
